Freeny Presents Program at State Conference

Angie Freeny, Program Coordinator with Payne County Youth Services partnered with Scott Roby with the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative to present at a workshop on June 26th for the Oklahoma State Department of Education - Alternative Education Summer Institute in Oklahoma City. The workshop presentation focused on the Within My Reach program and how to implement the program into the alternative education setting. Within My Reach is a 15 Hour curriculum designed to help single individuals and/or young parents identify how relationship decisions and behaviors affect their lives and their children, acquire skills to improve their chances for relationship success, and to consider their future relationship goals. The program is founded on two beliefs: 1) everyone wants to have happy, healthy and stable relationships; and 2) what people do in their relationships, especially in romantic relationships, affects their success in every other area of life including work, education, and child raising.

Payne County Youth Services provided this class to students at Lincoln Academy in the Spring 2008 semester. PCYS will be providing the Within My Reach program to students at Lincoln Academy over the 2008/2009 school year. Payne County Youth Services will also be facilitating Within My Reach groups at our office and other community sites as requested. For additional information, please contact Angie Freeny at (405) 377-3380.

The 4th Annual Tee for Teens Golf Tournament was held on June 14th, 2008 at Cimarron Trails Golf Course in Perkins, OK.

The community provided support in many ways including golfers who played in the tournament, businesses and individuals who provided hole sponsorships and door prizes, and those who assisted with advertizing and logistical issues. Miss Jordan Young, Payne County Junior Miss for 2009 assisted in the prize distribution at the end of the tournament.
